SDÍLEJ:
The Salzburger Sportwelt comprises seven holiday resorts and all of them are true hiking specialists: nestling between the Gosaukamm, Dachstein and Niedere Tauern mountains, Flachau, Wagrain-Kleinarl, St. Johann, Radstadt, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Eben and Filzmoos offer a variety of ways to explore the mountains with a total of 1,000 kilometres of marked hiking trails.
Whether as part of the Salzburg Summit Game, long-distance hiking on the Salzburg Almenweg, on a challenging climbing tour, with a knowledgeable guide, on a culinary stroll in the idyllic villages, through shady forests or on entertaining themed trails: hikers spend unforgettable holidays here in a beautiful and traditional natural landscape. Hiking here is complemented by novelties and alpine events.
Discover the diversity of the mountains
The Pongau mountains with their alpine pastures and peaks are an ancient natural and cultural landscape that can be hiked through on well-marked trails. Orchids such as lady's slipper and marsh orchid grow here by the wayside and marmots can be observed at close quarters. You can hike to the source of the Enns or to the largest mountain lake in the Eastern Alps - the legendary Tappenkarsee Lake. Themed trails such as "Alles Alm", the "Path of Good Wishes" or "Power of Trees" make hiking an entertaining and sometimes educational experience. The Rossbrand in Radstadt is considered one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in the Eastern Alps and in Filzmoos 17 power places can be hiked to.
Long-distance hiking on the Salzburger Almenweg
Eight of the total of 25 stages of the Salzburger Almenweg lead through the Salzburger Sportwelt and all seven holiday resorts: so if you like to be out and about for longer, you'll find a wonderful long-distance hiking experience here: from St. Johann, the trail goes via Kleinarl and Wagrain to Flachau, on to Altenmarkt-Zauchensee and across the Radstädter Tauern to Radstadt and Filzmoos. Numerous certified alpine summer huts lie along the way and many huts offer hikers selected Almenweg delicacies: These are dishes that are particularly popular in the respective huts.
Comfortable and climate-friendly with summer lifts, alpine taxis and wanderbuses
The comfortable summer cable cars take you up the mountains: particularly popular with all those who want to get up to the heights quickly and take care of their knee joints in the afternoon when going downhill. The Sportwelt wanderbus and the Alm-Taxis are also an ideal addition. From the end of May to the end of September, the wanderbuses are on the road in Salzburger Sportwelt every two hours to take hikers to the starting points of their tours and back to their accommodation at the end of the day. With the Sportwelt guest card, hikers travel at a reduced price of only 1 euro per route. Children between 6 and 15 years pay 50 cents per trip.
The Salzburg Summit Game is a way for hikers to conquer seven peaks in the region in a playful yet challenging way, following in the footsteps of the "Benevolent Queen and her noblemen". According to legend, the once powerful ruler and her wise advisors have long since been petrified into mountains: today, the Bischofsmütze ("benevolent queen"), the Hochgründeck ("healer"), the Penkkopf ("magician"), the Saukarfunktel ("poet"), the Lackenkogel ("guardian"), the Rossbrand ("scout") and the Gerzkopf ("bearer of secrets") are reminders of these personalities, their knowledge and their wisdom. The Salzburg Summit Game is a unique hiking challenge that is not only about climbing mountains, but also about listening to their messages. Thoughts for the path and specially developed summit rituals invite you to approach the mountains consciously.
The Salzburg Summit Game encourages hiking, but also careful listening and pausing, and is a game with the imagination that is inspired by the beauty of an impressive landscape. It is suitable for both adults and children. Summit players can purchase the summit box at the local tourist information offices. It contains a tour book (incl. background information, route descriptions, thoughts for the route and space for personal notes as well as embossed stamps), a hiking map and a carabiner. At each summit you can get a stamp for your tour book: Those who show it in the valley receive a "collector's peak", which is worn visibly on the rucksack. Those who have climbed all the mountains and have seven stamps in their tour book receive a surprise.
Filzmoos is a true hiking El Dorado at over 1,000 metres above sea level: the idyllically situated mountain village is famous for its beautiful location at the foot of the mighty Bischofsmütze, for its mountain cuisine and its fantastic tours. In the early summer of 2023, Austria's largest moorland experience for young and old nature explorers will be created on the Rossbrand. FILZ & MOOR is a nature experience, nature laboratory and nature conservation project in one, which will immerse visitors of all ages in the mysterious world of the moors. The new leisure and nature park can be reached comfortably from the centre of Filzmoos by the Papageno Cable Car and includes a 2.5-kilometre-long moorland trail with eleven moorland experience stations. The "picture book circuit" is a great moor adventure for little nature explorers. Below the Schörgi Alm is the "Moor Experience Play Park". Visitors to the Rossbrand Nature Paradise are accompanied by mascot "Filzi", a clever moor dragonfly. The specially developed "Moorwiki" provides everything worth knowing about the world of moors. Visitors can also contribute their own research results here.
Climbing in the high ropes course or on the way on secured via ferrata routes
Climbing sounds like a high alpine challenge, but in fact this mountain sport is a fantastic experience for the whole family: this is proven by the climbing world in Wagrain-Kleinarl. The high ropes course in Kleinarl comprises seven different courses of varying degrees of difficulty: the special highlights include the purple and black courses, which are located at a height of 80 metres. But it doesn't have to be so extreme: in the Climbing World, children as young as 5 years or 110 cm tall can put their skills to the test.
The first climbing routes can also be tried out in Wagrain-Kleinarl: the family via ferrata Tatzlwurm A/B (easy), the via ferrata Kesselfall B/C (medium) through the Kesselfall gorge and the via ferrata Kleinarler Luftikus C/D (difficult) offer climbing experiences for all family members and skill levels. The range of attractions is rounded off by a Flying Fox and a climbing hall in Wagrain-Kleinarl.
